IT Industry v2.0

Old technologies in the IT industry are running on life support. Individuals and corporations not embracing new technology are in for a shock.

The pace at which manual work are being automated, the work force in old technology is likely to shrink exponentially. Entire intranet of a company and all its applications is now conveniently hosted in cloud and accessible through hand held devices. The data center on premise which employs ten and thousands is gone. In the name of data security some companies are resisting going to Cloud but it has now been established that cloud is very secure even for super critical C3/C4 data type. Azure/Office 365 solutions are providing solutions at a frenetic pace and to a large extent are customized to customer needs.

Support cost for internal IT work will shrink even further as more and more Companies move from 100% on premise to 100% cloud – it is possible & it is happening as we speak. Exciting solutions taking care of various facets of data residency regimens of various Countries have evolved, so making excuses is not an option anymore.

Machine learning & AI though currently has limitations but its offerings is too exciting to be ignore. Robotics coupled with AI metrics will eventually knock off host of listless L1/L2 type support jobs of IT industry. Analytics is the buzz word – which sells. Real value of analytics is not yet revealed but potential which cognitive and predictive analytics offers are well documented and may provide breakthrough in Industry like health care and CPG and might end up saving life. Big Data is now a collaborative tool and not an alternative.

Client organizations are getting frugal – they are settling up captive IT in developing Countries to tactically reduce their ops budget while retaining talent in-house. Coupled with visa regime tightening in developed economies and growing threat of Brexit, the choice of offshoring Client IT organization is being implemented at a furious pace. IT Industry of 1990 & early 2000 has matured – early movers in terms of individuals of this era have now acquired leadership roles in Client organization and they are helping save every $ by recognizing potential savings of offshoring and working with low cost IT/ITES service providers in a managed service engagement.

Skype & collaborative tools like Teams offers flexibility of remote offices at minimum capital and operative costs and concept of modern workplace paradigm is an alternative to save costs on Infra costs, extra and sundries. Disruptive technologies are being launched by firms by the hour and threaten the existence of established product and service lines.

In short IT Industry v2.0 is changing and adapting to it is no longer a choice but a compulsion. Comply or be cannibalized.
